FIRE bosses apologised after sending a pick-up instead of a fire engine to tackle a blaze that started close to a house.
The fire service classed it as a 'small fire' and sent the Mitsubishi L200, a category two vehicle, from south Sheffield - 28 miles away.
A spokesman said: "Where there is any doubt a fire may escalate, or threaten life or property, a traditional fire engine should be mobilised.
"There was one incident this week where, unfortunately, that was not the case, and we apologise unreservedly to the people affected."
