A ‘DIE-hard’ fan of the film Kes is marking its 40th anniversary by bringing it to the stage in Barnsley.

Producer and actor Lee Semley, 31, wants ‘everyone and their grandmother’ to go along to his open auditions tomorrow at the Academy Theatre Birdwell.

“I don’t want just actors to audition. I want it to be real people, just like the film. I want it to be authentic, and proper Barnsley. I remember when I did Kes there was a southern lad playing Billy and I wanted to shove him off the stage.” Under-16s are asked to be there before 10am where there will be an open workshop until 12. Anyone wishing to try out for principal roles should turn up from 1pm.
