A QUARTER of Barnsley’s secondary schools are failing pupils according to Ofsted education inspectors.
A council spokesman said: “We are always concerned if any of our schools go into special measures. The introduction of Ofsted’s tougher framework for school inspections in September 2009 has seen schools across the country being placed in special measures, often as a result of the framework’s greater emphasis on exam results.
"The situation in Barnsley is in line with this bigger picture; prior to the raising of the bar by Ofsted, none of our secondary schools were in special measures. In terms of the present position, it must be emphasised that rapid and wide-ranging measures are immediately taken where a school is placed in special measures."
