BRIERLEY Town councillors have said they are committed to resolving the financial state of the council despite calls for it to be abolished.
Angry precept payers called for a public meeting after the council was loaned £500,000 from Barnsley Council following the arrest of two people on suspicion of fraud.
Robert Weldon, of Briar Grove, Brierley collected 300 names from residents who were unhappy about the loan which precept payers will have to pay back. Councillors were asked if they felt any shame or personal responsibility. Coun Mick Hanley said it would be easy to walk away, but vowed not to.
