A STUDENT from Barnsley College has become the first winner of the Holin Hammerton memorial cup.
The award was presented to James Rymer at Ardsley House Hotel during the Barnsley Youth Jazz Association's Christmas concert, which was performed by the Dearne Big Band and the Barnsley Youth Jazz Orchestra.
James, a former Darfield Foulstone pupil, was presented the award by Holin's son, Daniel Hammerton, for outstanding effort and attainment in music.
Also handing out prizes were president of the Barnsley Rotary Club Wendy Bell and Loraine Cawood.
Holin was a Darfield teacher who founded the Dearne Big Band and worked extensively with young people. He died last year.
