Council staff are to be asked to take over some of the work of police officers who lose their jobs because of cuts.

The force needs to axe £40m from its budget before 2015, starting with £15m next year, resulting in fewer officers.

And there will be fewer council PCSOs because of constraints at the town hall.

So other enforcement officers will be asked to be ‘flexible’ and take on some of the community policing roles. And more volunteers will be used to keep Barnsley safe.
