It will be a military operation when a new marching concert band forms for its first rehearsal later this month.
Louise Lingard-Snape is bandmaster to the new Yorkshire Band of The Royal British Legion, which will be the only military-style marching concert band in Barnsley. Conrnet and trumpet player Louise, 43, of Smithies, served in the army for 15 years and played with the band of the Royal Logistics Corps, based at Deepcut Barracks in Surrey.
She said: "I've only lived in Barnsley for a year. It's a nice thing that we have a lot of brass bands, we're almost saturated with brass bands, but there is a huge gap in the market for marching bands, as well as military-style bands."
The band will help to support the British Legion. They are looking for financial help to buy uniforms, particulalrly head dress. The first rehearsal will be at the Fontenay Barracks on Wakefield Road on September 19. Brass, woodwind and percussion players are invited to attend.
