THE die is about to be cast...

A former Darton College teacher is showcasing her passion for board games with an event at the Civic throughout the summer.

Ann Jones, a former English teacher, now runs Cards or Die, and has been invited to exhibit more than 150 vintage games which she has amassed through visiting charity shops, scowering ebay and through donations.

She said: “These are the games that connect most strongly with people and yet are the least played of my games.

“The exhibition aims to celebrate people’s commitment to their hobby in a society dominated by consumerism.

“Consumerism is particularly virulent in the boardgaming community as there is a pressure to have the hottest, newest game.

“By exhibiting the vintage collection, I hope to remind people of the history of the hobby and our own nostalgic connection to it.”

Ann’s fascination with board games started as a youngster and she feels that will strike a chord with others.

She added: “I was always playing board games as a kid.

“And those memories, in the holidays and on bank holidays, stay with you.

“I was the youngest sibling by 12 years, so everyone was at work, but when we played together it was a real treat.

“I am hoping the exhibition is a real celebration of the hobby and that it reaches more people.”

The exhibition runs from May 24 until August 8.
