PLANS to turn a Darfield property into a children’s home for up to three kids have been turned down by Barnsley Council.
An application for work to take place on Verona Rise was originally submitted to the council’s planning board in December.
A minimum of six care workers would have been at the property throughout the day, with that number reducing to four during night shifts.
The application went to public consultation with three residents submitting their concerns.
They raised from potential antisocial behaviour, impact to property value and the loss of a family home.
The plans were subsequently turned down.
A report states: “The proposal would result the loss of a four-bedroom family home from the housing stock.
“The scheme would reduce residential amenity for existing residents through additional activity associated with the proposed use which would be over and above what would reasonably be expected within an established residential area.
“This is only exacerbated by the location of the property along the shared private drive.
“There is also a lack of justification for the need of the change of use which makes it difficult to assess the need against the local impact.”
