BARNSLEY Community Gymnastics Academy is celebrating one of its strongest competition results in years after coming away with 50 medals.
Hosted in BCGA’s own Barnsley-based gymnasium, the academy’s local gymnasts secured 50 medals across vault, bars, beam and floor - 18 of which were gold - alongside three overall team titles and 14 further top-six finishes.
The club has emphasised that every gymnast who took part at the Opal, Crystal and Diamond competition earlier this month is a credit to the academy.
Squad co-ordinator Toni Wignall said: “I’m so proud of the hard work and dedication that these girls have shown over the last few months in the lead up to these competitions.
“Their fantastic attitudes and support for one another has made me so proud.
“For many of these girls, this event was their first opportunity to compete on all four apparatus and they really made it count.
“Their commitment to each other was inspiring, wanting to succeed not only for themselves but for their teammates too, which is something I know we will continue to see heading into the Yorkshire Women’s Artistic Teams over the next few weeks.”
The academy, based in Carlton, continues to welcome new members and encourages anyone interested in getting involved, whether through training, volunteering, or coaching, to find out more via www.barnsleygym.com or on social media.
