TWO residents in a Barnsley care home will see their work displayed for the first time in a town hall exhibition later this month.

Patricia Wroe, 89, and Peter Hardy, 76, will both have personal works unveiled at the Experience Barnsley Museum next Thursday.

The display will be open to the public, and will be officially opened by Mayor of Barnsley, Coun Dave Leech and local artist Charlotte Fairclough - who visited both artists to help select pieces for the exhibition.

Patricia and Peter were born in Barnsley and have lived here all their lives - with both now being cared for at Deangate Care Home.

They had initially doubted their talents, but Deangate activities coordinator Rachael Addy contacted Barnsley Museums in the hope of boosting the residents’ confidence.

She said: “It means so much to show everyone how talented these two individuals are.

“I want people to see past the fact they live in a care home.

“I want them to see they are two talented individuals in their own right and they have produced some stunning artwork regardless of age and circumstance.”

Patricia’s talent lies in painting, with one of her earliest memories being entering a painting competition aged just five - however her talent only came to light when she revealed a bag of artwork under her bed.

Peter is a passionate photographer - and his pictures taken across the UK still decorate his bedroom walls.

He said: “My passion came from my father, sitting with him developing photos in the shed.
