A LOCAL councillor has vowed to listen to residents’ concerns following reports of a recycling facility kicking up a stench for over a year.

Coun Neil Wright, who represents the St Helen’s ward, has been in constant discussion with Carlton’s UK Glass facility following concerns of smells coming from the site.

He recently met with representatives from the company, after already holding three meetings previously.

During the meeting, Coun Wright sought an update from the company on the promised installation of a filter system that offered a solution to address the issue.

Following the meeting, he expressed his commitment to resolving the matter.

He said: “I am dedicated to ensuring that our community remains a pleasant place to live.

“I appreciate the cooperation of Glass Recycling (UK) in both investigating and reducing the cause of these odours and am hopeful that we have found a swift and effective resolution.

“The meeting was incredibly constructive and I am pleased the company are determined to be not only a good business but also a good neighbour.”

Bob Crookes, from Glass Recycling UK, added: “We have now commissioned the new filter system, we had some teething issues, but these have now been resolved.

“The new plant will be operational November 2025.

“This will result in very low levels of unprocessed stock on site.”
