A BARNSLEY College student is making a huge impact across campus through her dedication to creating an inclusive space - and it’s culminated in her receiving an award.
Selma Mufundisi, a level three business student, has embraced multiple roles this year, including serving as the minorities officer for the Students’ Union and becoming the college’s racial justice commissioner.
Through these positions, she has worked passionately to represent underrepresented voices, challenge inequality, and encourage open, meaningful conversations among students and staff.
She was awarded the Student Voice Representative Award at the Excellence Awards this year.
She said: “I want every student to feel they belong and that they matter - that’s what drives me to keep going and keep speaking up.”
Sasha Foyster, learner voice adviser at the college, added: “Selma is always the first to say yes to a challenge and gives her all to make sure every student’s voice is heard, especially those who are often underrepresented.
“Her ability to lead with purpose, advocate for change, and bring students together makes her a true role model.
“She is a respected and valued member of the College community, helping to shape a more open, inclusive, and supportive environment for everyone.”
