MIDFIELDER Adam Phillips is excited at the prospect of working with Barnsley’s attacking options this year – and he’s hoping he can continue his goal-scoring form.

The 27-year-old has been prolific for a midfielder in front of goal during his first three seasons with the Reds.

He scored nine and assisted eight in 2022/23, scored 11 and assisted seven in 2023/24 and score nine and made a further six goals last campaign.

And he’s already off the mark this season after scoring a sublime volley against Plymouth Argyle in a 3-1 away win on Saturday.

Phillips said he’s excited at working alongside players such as Davis Keillor-Dunn and David McGoldrick – both of whom reached double figures for goals last season.

He said: “This year we’ve got goals over the team.

“Didzy has come in and he’s got experience.

“His hold-up play is going to bring a lot of players into the game.

“Davo does what he does every week.

“And then obviously Jon Russell and hopefully I can keep my numbers up.

“There’s goals all over the team and we’ve got some big boys in there for set pieces.

“So hopefully we can get a few goals.”

Barnsley have so far not sold any of their first team regulars, despite chairman Neerav Parekh saying earlier in the year that they would have to.

Phillips is one of the players that has been linked with a move away – but he’s focusing on the upcoming season with the Reds and says he has been impressed with the way head coach Conor Hourihane has been going about his business.

“Pre-season has been tough but you can see it’s paid off,” he said.

“The lads played the majority of the second half with ten men but they didn’t open us up too many times.

“Obviously they’re going to have chances.

“His ideas are really good and the lads are buying into it.

“When you see results like that it helps even more.

“It’s going really well.”
