STAFF at a Goldthorpe company are ditching the desks for dartboards in a marathon session.
IT Desk workers will be taking part in a 12-hour throw-athon in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support on Friday September 19.
The aim is for the players to reach 100,000 points while still running their day-to-day tasks from The Active Club in Wombwell.
Vicki Harper, IT Desk’s marketing manager, said: “We’ll be working and playing continuously and to all to raise money and awareness for Macmillan.
“The challenge is to play for 12 hours straight - or reach 100,000 points, whichever comes first.
“At IT Desk, we’ve always had a friendly culture and games have been part of office life for nearly 20 years - from pool tables and arcade machines to PlayStation and darts.
“We’ve had a dartboard in the office for more than five years, and while it started off as a bit of fun, it’s grown into our very own darts league.
“The clear winner has to be Mike, who’s been playing darts for over 25 years.
“He first picked it up at just 14, playing in the pub with his dad and his experience definitely shows whenever we take him on in the office.
“To keep things fair and fun, we’ve even introduced a handicap system so the rest of us have a fighting chance against him.”
The innovative event is also open for the public to call in and offer some encouragement.
Vicki added: “Every year we support a charity and this year we chose Macmillan.
“Sadly, everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer, and we’ve seen first-hand the incredible support Macmillan provides for families when they need it most.
“That’s why, when the idea of a darts marathon came up, we thought it was the perfect way to combine our love of darts with fundraising.
“And members of the public can pop in and donate for a cuppa and cake.”
Daniel Wall, Managing Director at The Active Club, said: “It’s great to be working with a local company like IT Desk.
"Not only are they our front-of-shirt sponsors, but for them to choose The Darts Club here at The Active Club Hub as the venue for their charity darts marathon really does build that sense of community.
"It shows how local businesses and clubs can come together to support both grassroots sport and important causes like Macmillan.”
