HOYLANDSWAINE posted the highest total in ECB Premier League cricket across the country since records began with a ‘ridiculous’ 592 for five off 50 overs in a home win over Honley in the Huddersfield Premiership.
According to the Premier League Cricket Club, it is the highest recorded 50-over score across in any of the 33 regional Premier Leagues in England and Wales which were first introduced in the late 1990s. The Huddersfield League became one this year.
The previous record-holders were Swaine’s neighbours Barnsley Woolley Miners who made 512 at Whiston in 2022 in Yorkshire Premier South.
Swaine’s Ben Kohler-Cadmore smashed 204 off 105 balls, Luke Bridges added 210 from 118 and former England player Samit Patel smacked 145 not out off 54.
They each reached double figures for sixes with 48 in total as well as 44 fours.
Captain Kohler-Cadmore said: “It’s ridiculous. Honley won the toss and bowled. If I won the toss, I would have bowled first because it didn’t look like a special pitch.
“The new ball was swinging a lot.
“We were 24 for two after six overs and just thinking about a good partnership. 20 overs later we’re looking at club records.
“We knew we could get our own league record of 475 but then the lads went mad and beat it by 120 runs.
“To get possibly the highest score ever at that level is just crazy.
“It’s going at 12 an over for 50 overs.”
There has been some backlash on social media with comments about the size of the Haigh Lane ground and Swaine’s line-up of high-profile players.
Kohler-Cadmore said: “We’ve seen the comments about it being a tiny ground but we’ve played there every other week and not got anywhere near 500. Teams have been bowled out for 150 or less.
“If every club could get the players we have, they would definitely try.
“Lots of clubs have county players and ex pros. We’ve had pretty much the same 13 or 14 all season and, on Saturday, three of us just clicked.
“Samit is a really good lad and gets on with everyone which is the side people don’t see. Some people think he just turns up but he’s really involved with the club. It’s brilliant for us to get the insight of an England international and for players at other clubs to play against him. He got hit for 30 in an over on Saturday so that’s a story for the Honley players to tell.
“It’s good for the league.”
Honley were all out for 369 with Max Morley taking five wickets and Nadim Hussain four. Swaine stayed two points clear in first place with two games left.
“Last year was my first year, and not to win league was really disappointing. We expect it of ourselves. We haven’t won any cups but we’re top of the league and bang up for the run-in.”
Meanwhile, Hoylandswaine 2nd XI clinched the Conference title and remained unbeaten in the league this season with a one-wicket win at Denby.
Faheem Basharat took four wickets then, after openers Asif Iqbal (50) and Matt Higgins (72) put on 116, they just crept to the target of 230.
