RUSSELL NETS IN JAMAICA WIN
JON RUSSELL scored another international goal this week and took a step closer to becoming the first Barnsley player to play at a World Cup.
The Reds midfielder netted the second in a 2-0 home win over Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday evening.
He also started the 4-0 win in Bermuda on Friday evening, assisting one of the goals.
Jamaica are currently top of their qualifying group, with the winners going straight through to the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico next summer.
No player is thought to have ever played at a World Cup while being on Barnsley FC’s books.
Russell’s current contract expires at the end of June 2026, when the tournament will be halfway through.
Patrick Kelly played the full game for Northern Ireland under 21s in their 1-1 draw in Georgia on Tuesday evening in a European Championship qualifier. Bayley McCann was an unused substitute.
Vimal Yoganathan and Jono Bland both played in Wales under 21s’ 6-2 loss at home to Denmark, having been 2-0 up, on Monday at Newport County’s ground. Bland started and Yoganathan came off the bench for his debut at that level.

Barnsley will host Reading from 3pm on Saturday as they return from a two-week break without a game.
The Reds have taken 13 points from six League One games so far while the Royals have won one of their six, although it was last time out against Port Vale.
The last six meetings of the two clubs at Oakwell have been draws, but Reading have not lost there in 12 visits since 1998.
Barnsley will look to stretch their unbeaten start to the season at home to six games in all competitions.
FOUR GOALS AND TWO RED CARDS IN U21S GAME
BARNSLEY under 21s drew 2-2 at Bristol City on Tuesday.
A trialist put them in front early then the hosts levelled before a City striker and Reds defender Tom Senior were sent off after half an hour following an off-the-ball incident.
The Robins took the lead when goalkeeper Aston Wilson lost the ball in his area, but Leo Farrell levelled.
They are now due to host Watford on Tuesday from midday, while the under 18s are set to visit the Hornets on Saturday.
LOANEE DALLAS CONTINUES SCORING STREAK
ANDY Dallas made it three goals in as many games with the opener in Southend United’s 3-0 home win over Halifax Town on Saturday.
The Scottish striker is due to spend the season with the Essex club in the National League then his contract at Oakwell expires next summer.
