NOT many married couples make it to their platinum wedding anniversary - but it’s a different story entirely for Silkstone Common’s Jim and Dorothy Travis.
On Wednesday, they toasted an incredible 70 years together.
Unbelievably, Jim and Dorothy worked next door to each other but didn’t meet until they first caught each other’s eye elsewhere.
The couple first met at a dance at Penistone Drill Hall, which was used for the forces during the war.
They were married as teenagers on September 17, 1955, at Penistone early in the morning, with a small gathering in attendance.
Jim and Dorothy haven’t spent much time apart, the exception being when Jim completed two years of National Service.
Since the beginning of their relationship, the couple have gone from strength to strength and had two children, followed by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
When asked about the secret to their long and happy marriage, Dorothy joked: “We get along very well and haven’t managed to kill each other yet.”
