BARNSLEY goalkeeper Jackson Smith has been loaned out to National League club Rochdale for an initial seven days.
The 23-year-old joined the Reds on a four-year deal, with a further option in the club’s favour, at the start of last season but has been often third choice, playing six games before picking up an injury in Conor Hourihane’s first match in charge at Mansfield Town in March.
Smith was sent out to League Two Grimsby Town for seven games last season on emergency loan.
Rochdale, managed by former Barnsley defender Jim McNulty, have won 12 of their 14 games in all competitions this season and are top of their table. They are due to host York City in the final FA Cup qualifying round on Saturday. Striker Leo Farrell has been loaned to Guiseley.
