BARNSLEY Women’s FC won 2-1 at Stourbridge and went joint top of the National League Division One Midlands.
Jodie Snelson opened the scoring then, after the hosts levelled on seven minutes, she won it late on.
The Reds have won five of their six games and have joined leaders Peterborough and third-placed Boldmere St Michael’s on 15 points but the other two have a game in hand.
Coach Craige Richardson said: “It was a tough one to watch.
“It was a typical game of two halves. We didn’t turn up in the first half.
“We started well and scored then it was a very soft free-kick which we conceded from.
“We had our backs against the wall in a scrappy first half. In the second half, we turned up and got a reaction and started to play a bit of football.
“We had three one-on-ones and the ‘keeper has made some world saves.
“She’s probably the best goalkeeper I’ve seen at this level, barring my own.
“But we have to be better in those situations.
“It feels like a loss if I’m honest.”
The Reds are not due to play again until Thursday, October 30 when they host Sheffield FC.
Richardson said: “We’re carrying a few knocks.
“A couple of weeks are needed to recover. We will lift spirits because Stourbridge wasn’t the performance we wanted, then get ready for Sheffield.”
