POLICE have launched an investigation after a drone reportedly began dropping tins of soup from the sky near a stables in Middlecliffe - much to the owner’s frustration.
It’s reported that on Sunday morning, a drone was seen in the Middlecliffe area carrying items, subsequently dropping tin cans and an oil bottle.
Thankfully no-one has been injured but one of the items was dropped at Peter Winks’ horse stables off Rotherham Road.
He told the Chronicle that the incident could have caused serious damage to either a person or one of his horses.
He added: “We had a tin of soup dropped near our stables on Sunday morning.
“There was also a bottle of oil dropped just up the road.
“These items at the height the drone was flying could have done some serious damage.
“Before the items were dropped the drone was just watching us.
“Surely this isn’t right?”
A police spokesperson said the force are asking for information from locals.
The added: “On Sunday October 12 at 10.58am, we received a call to report suspicious circumstances near a stables in Barnsley.
“It is reported that a drone flew near the Homefield Racing Stables near Rotherham Road, Middlecliffe.
“A tin can then dropped from it and landed near the area of the stables.
“Our Neighbourhood Policing Team is aware and anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101 or online.
“Please quote incident number 311 of October 12 when you get in touch.”
