A GRAMMY-winning musician recently visited to Barnsley College to speak with students.

Ron Block shared insights from his remarkable career in the music industry.

He is best known as a long-time member of Alison Krauss and Union Station and has collaborated with iconic artists including Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson.

An impressive 14 Grammy Awards have cemented his reputation as one of the leading figures in his field.

Ron took time out of his schedule to meet students, perform a few banjo tunes and answer questions about his creative process, influences and approach to music-making.

Student Millie Jonas said: “It was very informative, I loved the part where he talked about the open and fixed mindset, it felt like talking to any musician.

“I learned to stick to practising and avoid distractions.”

Daniel Watson, a music facilitator at the college who helped organise the visit, added: “The session offered students a rare chance to engage directly with a world-class artist, gaining valuable insights into both the technical and personal sides of a successful career in music.”
