YORKSHIRE Water have been conducting work on one of the main routes into the town centre after yet another leak - much to the frustration of local councillors.
Water began leaking on Doncaster Road late last month but Yorkshire Water only began work at the site at the weekend.
This incident follows closely on the heels of other reported leaks on Dodworth Road and in Ward Green.
Speaking at the site, Stairfoot ward councillors Karen Dyson, Paul Murray and Ian Shirt shared the frustration of their community members and called for prompt action and long-term solutions to these recurring issues.
They said: “Yet again, we see a water leak in our community.
“Meanwhile, residents are receiving higher water bills and living under the restrictions of a Yorkshire Water hosepipe ban.
“The leak on Doncaster Road, a major transport artery into Barnsley, does not reflect well on Yorkshire Water.
“We look forward to a speedy repair and greater investment in the ageing water infrastructure to make leaks like this a thing of the past.”
The lights, on Doncaster Road, began at the weekend and were due to remain there until today but work finished earlier than expected.
