THOUSANDS of poppies have gone on display around Hoylandswaine to mark Remembrance Sunday.

The Hoylandswaine Poppy Group have been working hard in recent months to ensure that locals are able to pay their respects.

In fact, there’s a map on all the pieces of work available to see.

From post box toppers and soldier silhouettes, to village benches being decorated and red, white and purple poppies - residents have gone all out.

Resident David Lofthouse said: “Hoylandswaine will be commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of the 1st World War with an extensive display of poppies and cut-outs of soldiers installed in fields of poppies throughout the whole village.

“There’s been a tremendous amount of work by the villagers and Brownies, who have knitted thousands of poppies, has been going on for several months.

“We are really pleased with the outcome.”
