MANSFIELD Town dumped Barnsley out of the FA Youth Cup with a 1-0 win.

The second round tie went the way of the visitors, coached by ex-Red Steve Chettle, with Barnsley failing to get their attacking game going on a freezing night at Oakwell.

The match had been originally scheduled for Friday evening but was put back following the persistent rain.

Mansfield were the first to come close with a loose ball gathered by Mace Oldershaw and he hit a powerful effort just wide.

The visitors then threatened from a set-piece with Jacob Stubbs heading straight into the hands of Jake Andrassy.

Mansfield kept up the pressure early in the second half with Stubbs again causing problems at a set-piece from Joshua Walters.

They took the lead in the 50th minute when TJ Grimes burst past a tackle and found space to drive in a shot from the edge of the box.

Nicky Eaden looked to his bench in response to try and get his team going.

Their first solid chance fell the way of Joshua Heyes but he dragged his effort wide of goal.

Another effort from distance came from substitute Joel Devaney but this was watched wide by Mansfield goalkeeper Milla Shore.

Mansfield then hit the crossbar with an inswinging corner flicked on by a Barnsley defender.

Walters then showed skill in the box before firing on goal. Andrassy managed to push the effort out for a corner.
