A BLUE plaque to celebrate the original location of Penistone Grammar School has been unveiled.

Current principal Paul Crook joined Mayor Hannah Kitching, Marie Tidball MP and local historians Kevin Neill and Richard Galliford to reveal the plaque outside The Vault restaurant on St Mary’s Street.

Richard said: “The school started as a chantry school in St John the Baptist Church in 1392 before moving over to the building across the road five years later.

“I would like to thank Will Rodgers at The Vault for allowing us to put the plaque on the front of the building.”
