THERE are two chances to catch a talk and book launch about a famed local football scout.
Authors Ashley Ball and Chris Brook have released Feeding The Wolves: The story of Mark Crook and Wath Wanderers.
It tells the remarkable story of Crook’s pioneering Wolves feeder team based at Cortonwood Miners’ Welfare.
It was from that base that Crook sent 114 footballers on their way to professional careers.
They included the likes of World Cup winner Ron Flowers and England internationals Cyril Knowles, Terry Cooper and Alan Sunderland.
Ashley said: “Mark’s story is one of the great untold ones in English football.
“Through the course of the last year we have managed to get to the bottom of his achievements and it’s an honour to share them.
“He was way ahead of his time and had an incredible eye for young footballers.”
The talks will last around an hour and are at Wath Rugby Club on Saturday (from 11.30am) and then Wombwell Library on Thursday December 18 (from 5.30pm).
The talks are free to attend and books will be on sale at them.
All proceeds from the books are heading to Brampton United FC and The Wolves Foundation.
Books can also be purchased by visiting the Barnsley Chronicle front shop on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 10am-2pm or through calling in at Montgomery Hall in Wath or Bull’s Head pub in Brampton.
