BARNSLEY Women’s FC completed their 2025 games with a 1-0 loss at Worcester City.
The Reds are still third in National League Division One Midlands, seven points off the only automatic promotion place and five off the only play-off place.
They now have a three-week break before hosting leaders Boldmere St Michael’s on January 4.
Manager Craige Richardson said: “We weren’t good enough, simple as that.
“I won’t take anything away from Worcester who are a good club.
“We’ve dominated the game, hit the post and bar, had a couple cleared off the line, their ‘keeper was the best player on the pitch.
“There are turning points in games when you can see those chances passing you by and you wonder if it’s ever going to go in.
“That was the story of the first half then panic set in in the second half and we lost our shape.
“To lose to a sloppy goal is tough to take.
“We have the quality to compete with the top teams, and we have done, but the girls have let themselves down against teams we should be beating on paper.
“Northampton, Sutton Coldfield and Worcester – it should be nine points but it’s been one.
“I am not sure if it’s a lack of desire because the girls work hard every week but Worcester wanted it a bit more.
“The festive break can’t come quick enough.
“We have a tough January and, if we turn up like that, it will be even harder.
“This squad is good enough.
“We have some big players missing but no excuses because the players we brought in should be good enough.”
In the Sheffield and Hallamshire League, Penistone Church won 4-2 at Staveley in Division Two.
Wombwell Town drew 3-3 at West End Terriers.
Jenna-Lea Portess scored twice and Lucy Tindle once.
