YOUNGSTERS from Barnsley Academy recently attended an interactive experience at Kendray Hospital.

The event was designed to showcase nursing as a rewarding and dynamic profession.

A total of 30 year nine pupils spent the day rotating through a series of nursing-themed workshops, each offering hands-on learning and insight into the vital role nurses play in healthcare.

The day featured clinical observations, helping students to understand how nurses identify and respond to changes in patient health.

Pupils were also taught about the importance of infection control and hand hygiene in preventing the spread of infection, and learnt more about symptoms, prevention and the impact of strokes.

They also found out more about different pathways into nursing careers, including T Levels and apprenticeships, helping students understand the different options available to start their journey into healthcare.

Youngsters had the unique opportunity to visit the state-of-the-art simulation suite at Oaks Park Medical Centre, where they experienced realistic clinical scenarios in a safe, controlled environment.

Registered nurse professional lead David Yockney said: “Events like Nursing Careers Day inspire the next generation and bolster the future workforce.
