Following the conclusion of the South Yorkshire Cross Country League 2025, it was confirmed that Barnsley AC seniors had been promoted from Division Two after finishing second with 145 points.
Barnsley AC juniors finished fourth with 57 points.
At the five-mile Wormstones Fell Race from Old Glossop, with more than 1,000 feet of climb, Penistone Footpath Runner George Parr led his club home in 11th with 37-16. Dan Limb followed in 43-53, with Steve Sanders close behind in 46-37.
Lesley Parker, Becky Timms, Steve Storey, Lee Storey, Steve Dickinson and Mandy Mallinder all completed the demanding course.
On New Year’s Day, Penistone’s Dawn Broom began 2026 in superb fashion at the Broadstone Quarter Marathon, winning the women’s over60 category in 49-22 and setting a club record for the distance.
Penistone’s Mark Crossley represented the club at the Chris Smale Giant’s Tooth Fell Race at Ogden Water, the traditional curtain-raiser to the West Yorkshire fell season.
Run over a short but testing 2.75-mile course with 478 feet of climb, Crossley finished 46th of 85 runners in 25-40.
There was further Penistone success on the road at the No Walk in the Park 5k in Chesterfield, organised by North Derbyshire Running Club.
Gemma Nutton finished as fourth female overall and was first senior woman in 23-12, while Amelia Cottam continued her strong recent form by finishing as ninth woman in 25-05 and setting a personal best.
Shaun Swallow came 17th in the men’s race with 20-55.
Three Barnsley Harriers took part in the Run For Wildlife Night 5k at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
Husband and wife Si and Georgi Newton were in wave one with Si finishing as first over45 man and 16th overall in 19-19. Georgi was 499th in 34-35.
Racheal Roddis came 483rd in wave two with 40-54.
