‘IT’S GOING to be pretty relentless’ is Conor Hourihane’s assessment of Barnsley’s packed schedule in the second half of the League One season.
The Reds are 17th, ten points off the top six play-off places and two clear of the four-team relegation zone.
Barnsley have won just three of their last 14 league games since September and have taken only a point from their most recent four, drawing at Wigan Athletic on New Year’s Day after three straight defeats.
Their match on Sunday at bottom club Port Vale was called off due to a frozen pitch.
That means they will have five games in hand on some clubs after this weekend’s fixtures and at least two on all the rest, while they are due to play at least 16 games in 56 days between January 24 and March 21.
Head coach Hourihane said: “It’s going to be pretty relentless for us.
“We have so many games to catch up on and we will need some good bodies in depth because literally from Reading (on January 24) we are Saturday, Tuesday until mid-March.”
