THE fists were flying for a full day at a local boxing club.
A 24-hour boxathon was held at Barnsley Star Amateur Boxing Club, based on Doncaster Road, last Saturday.
The aim of the event was to raise enough cash to fix a leaky roof on the building.
Veteran coach Trevor Schofield hailed the event and believes it’s brought the members closer together.
He said: “We had boxers coming in on rotation.
“Some came in, went home, came back and some stayed the full 24 hours.
“I am knackered but it was worth it.
“They were doing bags, pads, circuits and sparring.
“I’d also like to say a big thanks to Griffin Boxing Club for sending boxers down, too.”
The roof was set to be assessed by a professional earlier this week and Trevor is hopeful the £3,000 raised will help them carry on their good work.
Trevor added: “This is the gym where Callum Simpson started and we have been here coming up to 30 years.
“It’s our home and everyone in this community knows we’re here.
“It might be a bit spit and sawdust but we couldn’t move anywhere else.”
