A REFRESHED group welcomed a talk from a special guest speaker.

Monk Bretton Ladies Group originally met at St Paul’s Church, but will move to the Monk Bretton Methodist Church.

The group’s first meeting at their new home welcomed guest speaker Michelle Rawlins, local author and journalist.

Michelle gave a fascinating talk on her inspiration behind her book series, ‘The Steel Girls’, last Monday.

Yvette Llewellyn, 70, the group’s chairperson, hopes that Michelle’s talk has attracted new members, which help to give the group a refresh.

The group will go on to meet on the third Monday of every month, from 7.15pm to 9.15pm.

Their agenda will include events like visits to the theatre, trips to Cannon Hall, treasure hunts and a variety of interesting guest speakers.

Yvette said: “It’s the same group with a lot of the same members, but we’re hoping to reinvent it and attract some new members.

“It’s open to women of all ages, although a lot of our members are older women.

“Its purpose is to get people out there and combat isolation.

“We were very excited to welcome Michelle last week.
