THE winners of an inaugural pork pie competition were celebrated at a special event at the weekend.

Wath Tap micro pub’s competition, held last month, brought together 14 producers from across the region, ranging from traditional butchers to home bakers.

Each entry was judged through a blind tasting process by a panel of judges, ensuring fairness and a true test of quality, flavour, and craftsmanship.

Elmhurst Farm Products in Goldthorpe were announced the winners, Worsbrough’s Park Road Butchers finished in second and Birkinshaws in Mapplewell were third.

Jennifer and Dave Dalby from Monk Bretton won the home-baked class and Mag’s Butcher in Wath were highly commended.

The winners were formally recognised at a presentation evening at the Wath Tap, where certificates were awarded in front of customers, supporters, and fellow competitors.

Owner Melanie Swanwick said: “We were delighted with the response to our first pork pie competition.

“The standard was incredibly high, and it was fantastic to see so many local producers take part.
