A FILM featuring 20 limb-different children has been released as part of an awareness month.
Barnsley charity the LimbBo Foundation’s production features youngsters aged one to 18, each of whom boldly declare what they want to be when they grow up as part of its #iwanttobe campaign.
The charity was founded in 2018, following with birth of Tommy in 2014, by his parents Adam and Katie Dengel, grandmother Jane Hewitt and family friend Paul Woodcock.
Tommy was born missing his right hand and part of his right forearm, and his family wanted to ensure other similar children and families did not feel isolated.
The film was released this week to mark the start of Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month (LLLDAM).
From aspiring firefighters and doctors to artists and athletes, each child speaks directly to camera with confidence and joy.
Co-founder Katie Dengel said: “The #iwanttobe campaign by the LimbBo Foundation is a celebration of our children, recorded by our children.
“Every child is born with potential and in the video they show their personalities, hopes and dreams for the future.
“April is LLLDAM, a month to celebrate and raise awareness around limb difference.”
Katie’s son Tommy was born with a limb difference and is one of the charity’s main ambassadors - a ‘living embodiment’ of everything the #iwanttobe campaign stands for.
It’s also received praise from MP Marie Tidball, who is a patron for the charity and was born with a congenital disability which affects all four limbs.
“We are so lucky to have such a wonderful charity on our doorstep based in Barnsley, who provide such wonderful support to children and their families,” Marie added.
“I want limb-different children to grow up knowing they can fulfil their ambitions and potential.”
The film is available now on the LimbBo Foundation’s Instagram and LinkedIn.
