Police officers will be 'tweeting' the details of every incident of antisocial behaviour to help people understand the number and variety of incidents they deal with.

From noon until midnight, officers will provide details on social networking site Twitter, which will include their response.

The Friday before Bonfire Night is traditionally one of South Yorkshire Police's busiest days for reports of antisocial behaviour and it is hoped today's day of action will reduce this.

Activities will include high-visibility patrols, visits to firework retailers challenging the sale of fireworks to under 18s, patrols tackling the antisocial use of scooters on the road, Trojan bus operations and search warrants.

The force is also working with South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and the council to provide activities to keep young people busy over the bonfire period.

Free football coaching for nine to ten-year-olds will be available at Dearne ALC tonight from 6-9pm and there will be various activities at Penistone Youth Club from 7-9pm.
