Young substitute Leo Farrell scored his first professional goal on 96 minutes as Barnsley equalised for a 2-2 with Yorkshire neighbours Bradford City having had Vimal Yoganathan sent off after seven minutes.
Hours after the club announced that head coach Conor Hourihane would leave at the end of the season, there was an entertaining derby at Oakwell.
Barnsley performed well with ten men and took the lead through Eoghan O’Connell but promotion-chasing Bradford came back to lead.
Farrell, 20, turned in from close range to spark jubilant scenes in the home stands – giving Barnsley a deserved point for battling display.
The team was unchanged from the 0-0 draw at Port Vale on Tuesday with Mael de Gevigney on the bench but David McGoldrick not involved due to injury.
Bradford had a chance in the first minute but Jenson Metcalfe dragged wide on the edge of the box after a cross from the right by Will Swan. He also curled wide of the top right corner from 20 yards out on the left. Barnsley almost scored when, after a mix-up in the Bradford defence, Tom Bradshaw played in Scott Banks who was denied by a last-ditch tackle in the box by Aden Baldwin.
Yoganathan was dismissed on seven minutes for a lunge on Ibou Touray. Bradford struggled to create chances against ten men but appealed for a penalty on Marc Roberts against his former Reds team-mate Kayden Jackson.
The ten men almost took the lead when, after a foul throw by Touray, Roberts launched it long into the box and Adam Phillips found Eoghan O’Connell whose first shot was blocked then he fired over a few yards out.
Hourihane brought on de Gevigney for Josh Earl at the break. They scored within five minutes as Roberts’ long throw was expertly headed in by O’Connell into the bottom right corner for his first Barnsley goal.
Bradford nearly levelled instantly but Swan volleyed over from a Josh Neufville cross. Barnsley could have made it 2-0 when Bradford lost the ball and, after good passes by Bland, Bradshaw and Phillips, Banks’ deflected shot was clawed out by the goalkeeper. Swan’s header was kept out of the bottom left corner by Goodman.
Bradford substitute George Lapslie headed wide almost on the line after Stephen Humphrys and Nick Powell headed on from a corner.
The goal saw ex-Red Humphrys cross from the left and Powell head into the bottom right corner from close range. Bradford then had period of pressure with Goodman beating away a Neufville volley on the right from a tight angle.
Barnsley looked like they should have had a penalty as substitute Reyes Cleary ran into the box after Bradshaw won the ball then he went down after contact by Harrison Ashby, only for the referee to book the Reds man for diving.
Bradford took the lead on 82 minutes when Touray’s cross from the left was headed into his own net by Roberts.
The leveller saw Cleary run onto a superb pass Kelly and cross for Farrell to turn in from close range.
