ORGANISATIONS and individuals from across South Yorkshire came together at Barnsley College to explore how social value partnerships can support the region’s workforce of the future.

Hosted by South Yorkshire’s Giving Network (SYGN), part of South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation (SYCF), the event showcased how businesses are cultivating social value through meaningful community partnerships.

Speakers included representatives from Barnsley Council, who highlighted their extensive work with the college to support students through apprenticeships, work placements and real-world projects.

John Paul Laurence, vice principal for partnerships and growth at Barnsley College, said: “We are absolutely committed to transforming lives - that is our motto - but we can’t do it on our own.

“Partnering up in a way which gives students positive futures is what we are passionate about.

“It’s about creating opportunities our students could never have imagined.

“Many students don’t know what they want to do in the future, but through employer-led partnerships we can help guide them and give them the opportunity to fly.

“We want to work with businesses to give students the future they deserve.”
