BARNSLEY club runners took part in the Manchester Marathon.

Gail Colville finished in 3-33-54 and knocked more than six minutes off her Barnsley AC over60 women’s record. Both Taylor Hughes and Scott Atkinson set PBs and ran under three hours for the first time with 2-58-43 and 2-59-18 respectively. After a long period of injury, Heidi Quigley finished in 4-10-03.

New Barnsley Harrier Lauren Williams took two minutes off her previous best and Claire Clarke ran her first marathon. John Moss ran his first marathon of the year.

Alan Nutton led the way for Penistone with 2-55-24, finishing 751st overall, while Will Hoyland also broke the three-hour barrier with 2-57-15. Chloe Worth led the Penistone women with 3-48-51, taking four minutes off her previous best. Rory O’Sullivan completed his first marathon in 3-54-23, while Chris Baldwin recorded his fastest marathon to date.

Carl Matthewman produced his second quickest marathon performance and Heather Graham also enjoyed her fastest outing over the distance.

Dronfield 10k marked the opening race in the Penistone Footpath Runners Road Championship. Flynn Rogers was fifth overall in 36-29, while also taking first place in the under 18 category. Barnsley AC’s Gemma Thickett was fifth woman in a time of 41-06 while Nigel Morton’s time was 48-16. Stefen Radyk finished in 58-17. A total of 19 Harriers were at Dronfield for the third race in their road championships. There were PBs for Chris Fall (65 seconds), Antonette Wilson (57 seconds), and Shaun Curtis (42 seconds). There were also PBs for Adrian Bywater and James Morgan, with Adrian running the distance in club colours for the first time. Paula Mills was third over60 woman.

Harrier Dean Goodwin ran the 46 miles of the Peak District Full Birthday Bash, finishing 18th from a field of 71 in a time of 11-27-00.

The second race of the South Yorkshire Road League was held at Ingbirchworth. Barnsley AC’s Phil Montgomery was ninth with 27-57 and Ruby Sunman ran 30-45 for first woman. Penistone’s Flynn Rogers led his team home to finish 27th in 29-34, while Suzanne McGill led the women’s team with 33-38 to take first place in the over45 category. Ian Neville, Barbara Haigh and Ray Brown won their age categories.

Robert Davies represented Penistone at the Newport Marathon, finishing in 3-26-52 for 769th overall. Barnsley AC’s James Drake finished in 3-12-07.

Barnsley AC had 15 athletes at the Doncaster Spring Open. There were PBs in 100m for under 14 Shelby Robinson (14.68), under 16s Joanna Adediran (13.71), Charley Marshall (12.39) and Thomas Clark (12.02) plus under 18 Poppy Kaye (12.59). Joanna (29.30), Charley (25.26), Poppy (26.20), Riley Hall (23.04) and Elsie Portman (29.29) all set PBs over 200m. Under 12 Anica Leake ran a PB of 11.33 in the 75m. In the long jump, Luisa Akpojivi (3.82m) and Elsie Portman (3.53m) achieved PBs.
