BARNSLEY Women’s FC completed their season with a 1-0 win at Northampton Town and believe they can challenge for promotion in the next campaign.
Jodie Snelson scored midway through the second half.
The Reds finished fourth with 42 points from 22 games in the National League Division One Midlands, 12 points off the second promotion place and 20 behind the title winners.
Manager Craige Richardson said: “Lovely way to end the season.
“We had a wrong to put right from when we played Northampton and missed two penalties and lost.
“It was nice to dominate and 2-0 or 3-0 would have been fairer. It was good to finish the season on a high.
“We have a good start for next season with payers wanting to re-sign.
“That is a really good platform. With two or three signings, this will be a promotion-winning squad next year without question.”
