A BARNSLEY care service which provides care to more than 60 people in their own homes has been praised for their ‘outstanding’ work.
Less than four per cent of care facilities across the UK receive their top marks from the Care Quality Commission following an inspection.
But Crossroads - based on Stocks Lane - is now among that elite group after being told it delivers outstanding care to people across the borough.
A report said: “The provider had a clear vision and consistently put their values into action.
“These values included equality, inclusion, dignity, and respect for people’s human rights.
“Leaders made sure these values guided everyday practice.
“The provider showed strong understanding of local needs and took effective action to improve outcomes for people and the wider community.
“They developed inclusive community spaces and support services, worked in partnership with other organisations, and reduced barriers for people who may otherwise struggle to access support.
“For example, the service ran a community café, organised drop-in hubs for staff, delivered health education sessions and created volunteering training, and employment opportunities.
“These projects ensured that people from different backgrounds, including those with complex needs or limited prior engagement, could access support in ways that suited their circumstances.”
The service was also praised for its safety.
The report added: “People were safe and protected from harm.
“Staff understood how to manage risks and responded promptly to concerns.
“People and relatives knew who to contact if they were worried and felt confident issues would be addressed.
“The provider acted quickly when safety concerns were raised and took appropriate action to reduce ongoing risk.
“Communication with families supported safe care, and staff worked in a way that balanced safety with people’s independence.
“The service had infection prevention and control measures in place which were in line with current guidance.
“People received a consistent and reliable service, provided by regular staff with whom they were familiar.”
A spokesperson for Crossroads added: “We are beyond proud to announce that we have officially been rated outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.
“This incredible achievement reflects the heart, dedication and humanity that everyone of us brings into our services each day.
“While celebrating, we will also like to remind us that having an outstanding rating is not the finish line - it is the standard we now uphold.
“It is the motivation that pushes us to stay focused, stay united, continue delivering the high‑quality, empowering and compassionate care that the people of Barnsley deserve.
“Thank you for every late night, every early morning, every act of kindness, every moment of patience and every ounce of dedication.
“This is Barnsley’s achievement.”
