BARNSLEY Woolley Miners strengthened their promotion chances with a home win over Rockingham who remain winless and bottom.
Rock collapsed from 128 for two to 166 all out with Barnsley’s Lucas Slatter taking four for 26.
Barnsley were 56 for four but Charlie Taylor (51 not out) led them to a five-wicket win.
Rock have lost all nine games and are 37 points adrift in the bottom two.
Barnsley are ten points clear in the second promotion place because third-placed Elsecar lost at home to Shiregreen.
Arsalan Mir, Curtley Louw and Haider Jahangir took three wickets but Elsecar were out for 161 chasing 197.
Barnsley captain Boeta Beukes said: “It was a good win in a tight game.
“It was a bit ropey at times but we got there in the end.
“Rockingham got more runs than they should have.
“We didn’t bowl well at first but then Lucas came back for a second spell and did really well.
“That changed the game. We really slowed their scoring down.
“Charlie Taylor batted really well.
“He’s in the Yorkshire academy but he’s been injured so to have him back helps a lot.
“Our overseas Ali (Zaryab) got out early for the first time in a long time but other players stepped up which is really good.
“Results went our way. It would be nice to go into the second half of the season in the top two.
“That would give us a lot of confidence.
“We just want to keep going.
“We have Shiregreen next who just beat Elsecar so it will be a tough game.”
