A TEMPORARY closure notice has been placed on a Goldthorpe shop after a large quantity of ‘illegal’ tobacco was seized by officers.
Following reports of suspicious activity at JD Mini Market on Barnsley Road, officers from Barnsley South East’s Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted intelligence patrols in the area.
They noted one particular male acting suspiciously, coming back and forth between a vehicle and the shop carrying black bags.
A spokesperson said: “The male was stop-searched by officers who located a large quantity of tobacco.
“They contacted Trading Standards who attended yesterday and were satisfied that the tobacco that was seized was ‘illegal’.
“As a result, there is now a temporary closure notice on the property with a view to obtaining a 12-month closure order.”
