PENISTONE Footpath Runner Graihagh Turner continued her outstanding season with victory in the women’s under20 race at the Clougha Pike FRA Junior Championships.

The 17-year-old Great Britain youth runner, from Penistone, finished fifth overall in the under20 race in 49-49 and was first female, taking the win against a strong national junior field.

Barnsley AC’s juniors competed at the second YADAL meeting in Cudworth.

They are currently third out of ten with one meeting left.

Archie Bisht broke the Barnsley Schoolboys 800m record in a time of 2-17. He also won the 1500m in 4-45.

At the Tom Holmes Oughtibridge Chase, Penistone’s Flynn Rogers won the junior race in 12-33, around a minute quicker than last year. Jack Howden made his race debut in Penistone colours.

Penistone’s Martyn Goodwin took on the James Blakely Harden Moss Fell Race, an historic summer event first held in 1937. He finished 21st overall and second man over60 in 31-41.

Penistone Footpath Runners enjoyed a strong showing at their own Norman Cole Penistone 10k, claiming both the men’s and women’s’ team prizes on a hot and testing morning.

Ashley Firth led the club home with a fourth-placed finish in 37-10, followed by Flynn Rogers, who was 11th overall and second under 18 in 40-15 and Alex Harris who was 12th in 40-26. The trio secured the men’s team prize.

Jade Crosby was second female overall in 42-15, Suzanne McGill was third female and first woman over50 in 43-47 while Nichola McNally was fifth female and first woman over55 in 45-07 – the three combining to win the women’s team prize.

Marc Robertson, Oliver France, Alex Crosby and Ryan Duckett were inside the top 30. France also claimed first place in the under 20 category in 41-28, while Edward Holley was first under 16 in 48-37 and Sue Hall first woman over65 in 59-02.

Julian Williams was second man over55, Emily Duckett second woman over40, Heather Simpson second woman over50, Stuart Woodhead second man over70 and Bill Phillips second man over75.

Several runners also recorded notable course improvements including Firth, Jade Crosby, Alex Crosby, Alex Harris, Rory O’Sullivan and Sara Wolstenholme.

Barnsley AC’s Gemma Thickett was first female in 41-37.

Jack Quigley was 13th overall and first senior man in 40-41.

Harrier Richard Spooner was second over40 man and Charlie Holt first under 18 while Julie Riding was second over60. Lauren Williams was third over35 woman and Kelly Ford fourth over45 woman. There was a course PB for Jay West of nine minutes. Dawn Winterbottom and Jonathon Austin made their club debuts.

The Higham Hurtle was held in hot conditions over a hilly course. Richard Cottam won in 30-12, with Sean Pitt making it two Penistone runners on the podium by finishing third in 31-38.

John Halstead finished in the top five with 33-29, while Martin Ball, Ian Neville, Suzanne McGill, Julian Williams and Alex Crosby all finished inside the top 30. McGill was fourth woman overall and claimed the first woman over50 prize in 38-25.

Barnsley AC’s Vicky Shaw was first woman in 36-11 and Gemma Thickett third with 37-13 while Chris McNicholas was tenth overall and first over60 man in 34-55.

Barnsley Harrier Charlie Holt finished second and was first senior man.

Club-mate Paul Johnson was also in the top ten. New member Olivia Plotts was first female Harrier over the line with John Hewitt first over80 man.

The Damflask Relays took place at Low Bradfield.

Penistone’s senior men’s team of Flynn Rogers, Sean Pitt, Ashley Firth and Oliver France finished eighth overall in 1-22-31, while the men’s over40 team of Alan Nutton, Robert Lees, Damian Kilpin and James Mumford placed 19th overall and fifth in their category in 1-26-26.

Penistone also placed fifth in the men’s over50 category, where Jonathan Bentley, Martin Ball, Matthew Robinson and Robin Clough finished 33rd overall in 1-33-57.

In the three-leg race, Rachael Mayston, Heather Simpson and Josie Smith came 14th overall and fifth in the women’s over35 category in 1-15-49.

The senior women’s team of Gemma Nutton, Jemma Williams and Jade Crosby were 18th overall in 1-17-57, with Crosby producing the fastest Penistone women’s leg of the night in 23-16.

A second senior women’s team of Olivia Clough, Heather Graham and Fay Nicholls finished 51st in 1-32-00.

Penistone also fielded a men’s over60 team with Stuart Woodhead, Mark Graham and Steve Dommett placing ninth in their category in 1-39-19.

At the DCRO Dash Fell Race in the Hope Valley, Damian Kilpin led Penistone home in 20th and fourth in the men’s over40 category in 45-43.

Rebecca Timms was fourth female overall and second in the women’s over40 category with 57-50, while Harriet Drouin completed the tough fell route in 1-09-39 to finish fourth senior female.

Penistone’s Jill Scrivens claimed third place in the women’s over50 category at the Newmillerdam Quacky Trail Race 5k, finishing 91st overall in 26-08.

Harrier Mark Rawnsley was tenth over50 man in under 24 minutes.

Penistone’s Dawn Godley finished the Haigh Hall Four-Mile Trail Race near Wigan in 32-13.

She placed 139th overall, 36th female and third in the women’s over65 category, improving her time from last year by around two minutes and earning an 83.7 per cent age grading.

Barnsley AC’s Kerry Storrar competed in the Hyrox World Championships at the Strawberry Arena in Stockholm. Hyrox combines running with exercise stations.

She was 25th in the pro solo event with 1-21 and 12th in the doubles alongside Adele Marsden.

At the Not Ulley Res race, Barnsley AC’s Chris McNicholas finished tenth overall and second over55 man in 23-11.

Dave Allemby finished second in the overall 70 category.

Harrier David Hanks was third overall and first over45 man while Catherine Stone was fifth over45 woman.

Barnsley AC’s Mark Wood competed in the 5000m track event at Doncaster in a time of 19-21 – a 14-second improvement on his PB from 2019.
