A LUNDWOOD primary school is the third most improved in England, according to the latest primary school league tables.
Littleworth Grange, on Littleworth Lane, has seen a 60 per cent increase in pupils achieving level four or above in key stage two tests in both mathematics and English between 2009 and 2012.
This year up to 92 per cent of 11-year-olds at the school achieved the expected standard, compared with only 32 per cent in 2009 when it was judged 'inadequate' by schools watchdog Ofsted and given a notice to improve.
However, the school was judged satisfactory last year following a steady improvement in pupil SATs tests over the last four years.
New systems to improve the tracking of pupils' performance and teaching quality, and a quality curriculum to engage both children and teachers was also introduced.
Executive headteacher, Sarah Creighton, said the school had focussed on improving the quality of teaching and learning, the curriculum, tracking children's progress and looking a different provisions when problems arise.
Mrs Creighton came to the school in March 2010, after it was given notice to improve to provide strategic leadership.
She added: "It's just fantastic. The percentage has been rising every year.
"All the children and staff are delighted, because it's about recognition of hard work and about how when we work together as a team, we can turn things around.
"We've had really good support from the council,the governing body, staff, parents and children.
Mrs Creighton, who was appointed to Littleworth Grange two years ago, is also executive head of The Hill Primary in Thurnscoe.
The league table also shows all pupils at Silkstone Common Junior and Infant School are achieving level four in both English and maths for the third year in a row.
Other schools across the borough, which had more than 90 per cent of pupils achieving the expected level, were Barugh Green, Brierley, Cawthorne, Dodworth, Gawber, Hoyland Common, Keresforth Primary, Lacewood, Milefield, Oxspring, Silkstone Primary, St Helen's Catholic, St Mary's, Upperwood Academy, West Meadows and Wilthorpe Junior School.
When looking at how well pupils have achieved since the last league tables were published, the top four schools are Littleworth Grange, Lacewood Primary in Bolton, Milefield Primary in Grimethorpe and Athersley North Primary.
The bottom four schools were Pipers Grove Primary, St Dominic's Catholic Primary, The Edmunds Primary and Doncaster Road Primary.
