Having been forced to read every word ever written on the internet about caring for your kitten, I know the drill ... Put the pet carrier in a quiet corner, open the door and make sure there is food, water and litter tray nearby. Let the kittens explore their new home in their own time.

Easier said than done ... younger daughter is peering at them, full of angst that they’re pining for their mum. Older daughter is in a flat spin that we don’t have any functioning scales to weigh the recommended amount of food.

The new family members seem oblivious to the panic and clamber out quite happily and go on a fact-finding mission albeit a little unsteadily ... that’ll be the stress of the journey, mum, volunteers newly-appointed cat expert number one!

Twenty minutes later , they’re curled up together fast asleep in their basket made for two. Three pairs of eyes study them willing them to wake. But these little fellows sleep hard and play hard ... as we soon find out.
