Barnsley will not appeal the red cards given to Stephen Dawson and Tom Kennedy during the 6-0 home loss to Charlton Athletic on Saturday, says director Don Rowing.

Manager David Flitcroft claimed in a press conference on Monday morning that the club were considering appealing against Dawson's red card for a two-footed lunge on Yann Kermorgant which would automatically leave the Irish midfielder with a three-game ban.

But Rowing said: "We have now decided not to appeal. I watched the video with David and his coaching staff Mickey Mellon and Martin Scott and we all thought that Dawson's foot was up and the referee got it right. We sought advice and we were told there was no obvious error and we felt it would be foolish to appeal.

"If you appeal unsuccessfully, the ban is doubled from three to six games so we didn't want to run that risk."

Dawson will be out for the next three matches and return for the final game of the season at Huddersfield on May 4.

Kennedy, who was red carded for bringing down Charlton's Ricardo Fuller in stoppage time, is banned for one game, the visit of Derby County on Tuesday.

Flitcroft said after the game: “Dawson reached instead of being reckless. That's just the way Daws tackles. All that was driving through my head was that he would be out for three games. For the TK one, if he’s last man and the referee feels he has taken the man out then he’s got every right to do him for a professional foul."
