Barnsley defender Tom Kennedy has signed a new two-year deal at the club.

Kennedy, who turns 28 in June, wrote on Twitter: "Delighted to sign for another two years at Barnsley FC. Looking forward to next season now."

The defender, who played under Keith Hill and David Flitcroft at Rochdale, joined Barnsley in September on a short-term deal. He played four times under Hill but, after playing on a rolling contract, earned a contract when Flitcroft took over in January and was almost an ever-present until the end of the season.

Kennedy was one of eight players offered extensions to their contracts when the season ended. Jason Scotland was the first to sign up and Kelvin Etuhu is understood to have agreed terms but there is no news yet on Luke Steele, Bobby Hassell, Jim McNulty, Martin Cranie and Tomasz Cywka.
