A PUB owner is calling for CCTV cameras to be installed in Wombwell - to prove his business isn’t to blame for escalating crime reports.
Arthur O’Loughlin says councillors and police officers wrongly assume that all trouble in Wombwell centres around his bar, Locky’s.
He claims CCTV would prove that it’s not just revellers from his bar who are vandalising the town. He said: “Kids are buying booze from local supermarkets and wrecking the town centre, it’s not always people from Locky’s bar.
“There’s all sorts of vandalism issues which would be solved if they would fork out the money and get some cameras up.
“Everyone thinks it’s the nightclubbers who are causing trouble when most of the time it’s just kids. Cameras would put a stop to all the drugs and other stuff what goes on in Wombwell.”
Mr O’Loughlin has recently finished a three-month agreement with the police in which he was asked to shut his doors at 11pm.
Officers were concerned about rising reports of fighting, and made a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ for him to close his doors earlier.
