Former Reds target Matty Fryatt cancelled out a fine Marcus Pedersen goal as Barnsley drew 1-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday in a 12.15pm kick-off at Oakwell on Saturday.

Barnsley went ahead on 16 minutes when Reda Johnson slipped under pressure from Paddy McCourt and Pedersen went through on goal. He hit the post with his first effort but David Fox found him again seconds later and the Norwegian striker made no mistake this time with an excellent finish into the top right corner.

Wednesday kept giving the ball away at the start of the second half but David Perkins missed a fine chance to put the Reds 2-0 up.

Suddenly the match changed when the referee missed a handball by Jean-Yves M'Voto in the Barnsley box.

The Owls were spurred on and started to create regular chances. Jack Butland made a fine save from Adthe Nuhiu but then was beaten by Matty Fryatt after Jeremy Helan's volleyed pass put him straight through. Butland again denied Wednesday with a fine save when Mikhail Antonio really should have scored.

Wednesday had several further chances but the Reds held on to draw. The match was bad-tempered towards the end as Pedersen and Reda Johnson were both booked after a scuffle in front of the dugouts.

Flitcroft claimed it should have been a red card while Owls boss Dave Jones disagreed and suggested that M'Voto's handball was the worst error.
